Hi. Meet Susanna...
... a screenwriter, playwright, educator and consultant building a growing catalogue of feature films, plays, shorts, and TV series.
She is a Canadian woman who grew up on the prairies of Alberta, loves the mountains of the Rockies, and currently lives in her coastal home on beautiful Vancouver Island.
She loves the arts (music, dance, drawing, painting, theatre, movies), and spends a good amount of time in nature photographing its wonders.
Her Work
Her latest produced work, It's Not Haunted, is a short comedy-horror film that premiered at Zion's Film Festival in February 2026, with a feature-length adaptation currently in development. She also recently finished writing a feature film for a client called Irresistible, an erotic romantic comedy that is surprisingly touching. She's a prolific writer with many features, plays, shorts and TV series available to option or buy.
Her personal writing style has been described as “heartwarming heartbreak.” Her funny bone tends to emerge as she simultaneously rips your heart out. Her characters are grounded, funny, and relatable — yet often navigate gut-wrenching circumstances.
Her Method
Behind every one of those scripts is a process. Susanna took the best of her learning and experience — a blend of writing, acting, directing, and dramaturgical techniques — and developed it first to solve her own writing challenges, then turned it into the Script Writing Foundations 101 course to help other writers finish theirs. A book and additional courses are currently in development.
She uses this same process in her own writing today, alongside her students and clients.
Her Path
She became a mother at 18. By 30, she was a single mother of 6 children (3 girls, 3 boys) — and it was in those years, running her own cleaning company to support them, that she started writing and composing the stories that had been occupying her mind.
She gained her education slowly: upgrading, university preparation, then her first year of a BA. She was accepted into an honors double major at the University of Alberta, but family responsibilities didn't allow for the rigorous schedule.
She turned instead to part-time studies and began the Arts and Cultural Management program at Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton, Alberta. There she took two screenwriting classes and knew this was for her.
When her last child left home, she began full-time studies at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre with an emphasis in play and screenwriting. There she was introduced to dramaturgy, which is such an integral part of her practice. It was then she began earning recognition and awards for her writing. A great help to this end was the Writer's Circle she founded with the intent to support script writers in their writing process. Having a genuine love for the writer, she still provides this service online, for free, today.
Susanna went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts in Writing for Stage and Broadcast Media from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama with London University, in London, UK. She then founded Scripts by Susanna, where she writes her own scripts and helps others do the same.
Her greatest joy is her children, who are also very talented and kind human beings.
